A city of the future, Byen Vann, engineered by students from Valley Middle School in Oakland, New Jersey, has won the grand prize today at the 2013 National Engineers Week Foundation Future City® Competition. The middle school students – Anna J. Butler, 13, Padraic James Burns, 13 and Sophia Kotik, 14 teamed up with their teacher, Judith Vihonski and volunteer mentor, Robert Akovity, an engineer with Johnson Controls in Secaucus, NJ. Valley Middle School has represented New Jersey in the Future City National Finals for 12 years in a row.
