Job Descriptions

Job Title: Virtual City Judge

Judges will be provided with the SimCity software download code. The software can be used beyond the competition.

ROLE DESCRIPTION: Virtual City Judge

Using SimCity software, locate the assigned virtual city and score based on defined criteria. Scores will be entered on the NorCal Future City CMS. 

NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 15

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 4 hours

Each city takes approximately 30 minutes to judge. We are asking for a minimum 4 hour time commitment. The judging is performed online and can be done at your leisure. The virtual city judging will take place between Nov 1st and Jan 19th.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend the online judge training session – webinar will be available on-demand
  • Score the Virtual Cities based on the criteria defined in the virtual city rubric.
  • Enter the team score in the CMS

ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT/SKILLS:

  • Requirement: A PC or MAC computer capable of running SIMCITY
  • Computer literate - ability to download the SIMCITY game and link to the team virtual city and connect to NorCal Future City CMS and upload team scores.
  • Time Management
  • Light-moderate experience interfacing with games

Job Title: Special Awards Judge

Competition Day Judge

Required: Bring a mobile device capable of connecting to NorCal CMS. All scores will be entered online.

** NorCal Sponsors may define a Special Award category. Deadline December 15.

ROLE DESCRIPTION: Special Awards Judge

Judges will interview each student team and determine the top three teams that exemplify the spirit of the special award.For example the "Excellence in Communication System" Special Award Judge would score each team based on their future city communications system.

The judge will define the award criteria and interview each student team. The list of Special Awards will be posted on the NorCal Future City website soon. Judge training will be provided. Judges will enter scores on the NorCal CMS.

NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 30

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 6 hours

When:  Saturday January 24th from 7:00-1:00

Judge check-in is at 7:00 a.m. with training overview immediately following check-in.

The special award interview should not exceed 5 minutes per team.  

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend the online judge training session – webinar will be available on-demand
  • Interview and score the student teams’ virtual city based on the criteria as defined by the judge.
  • Enter the team score in the CMS

ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT/SKILLS:

  • Requirement: A mobile device computer capable of connecting to NorCal Future City CMS
  • Computer literate - ability to connect to NorCal Future City CMS and upload team scores.
  • Time Management

Job Title: Essay and Narrative Judge

ROLE DESCRIPTION: Essay and Narrative Judge

Locate the essay and narrative for each assigned team. Score based on defined criteria. Scores will be entered on the NorCal Future City CMS.

NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 15

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 4 hours

Each essay and narrative takes approximately 30 minutes to judge. We are asking for a minimum 4 hour time commitment. The judging is performed online and can be done at your leisure. The essay and narrative judging will take place between Nov 1st and Jan 24th.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend the online judge training session – webinar will be available on-demand
  • Score the Essays and Narratives based on the criteria defined in the essay rubric and narrative rubric.
  • Enter the team score in the CMS

ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT/SKILLS:

  • Requirement: A PC or MAC computer capable of connecting to the NorCal Future City CMS
  • Computer literate - ability to login to CMS and download the essay and narrative for judging and enter the team scores.

Job Title: First Round Team Presentation Judge

Competition Day Judge

Required: Bring a mobile device capable of connecting to NorCal CMS. All scores will be entered online.

ROLE DESCRIPTION: First Round Team Presentation Judge

Judge student teams’ oral presentation at the NorCal Regional Competition. A three member judge panel will listen to several 5-7 minute verbal presentations and ask the students questions about their future city.  Judges will score presentations based on criteria defined in the team presentation rubric. Judges will enter scores on the NorCal CMS.

NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 40

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 6 hours

When:  Saturday January 24th from 7:00-1:00

Judge check-in is at 7:00 a.m. with training overview immediately following check-in.

Each oral presentation takes approximately 20 minutes to judge and score.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend the online judge training session – webinar will be available on-demand
  • Score the presentation based on the criteria defined in the rubric.
  • Enter the team score in the CMS

ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT/ SKILLS:

  • Requirement: A mobile device computer capable of connecting to NorCal Future City CMS
  • Computer literate - ability to connect to NorCal Future City CMS and upload team scores.

Job Title: Physical Model Judge

Competition Day Judge

Required: Bring a mobile device capable of connecting to NorCal CMS. All scores will be entered online.

ROLE DESCRIPTION: Physical Model Judge

Judge student teams’ physical model at the NorCal Regional Competition. Judges will score the student teams’ future city physical model based on criteria defined in the physical model rubric.

Judges will enter scores on the NorCal CMS.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend the online judge training session – webinar will be available on-demand
  • Score the Physical model based on the criteria defined in the rubric
  • Collect the expense form and receipts. Ensure the cost of the model does not exceed $100
  • Enter the team score in the CMS

NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 15

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 6 hours

When:  Saturday January 24th from 7:00-1:00

Judge check-in is at 7:00 a.m. with training overview immediately following check-in.
