DOWNLOAD:
Q: Can we download SimCity using Windows 10 (or any other commonly-used operating system)?
A: Please refer to the technical specs for Origin/SimCity, found here: http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-technical-specs

Q: Can students play SimCity on their Chromebooks?
A: Origin requires either a Windows or Mac platform and will not function on a Chromebook.

Q: Can SimCity codes be used on X-box?
A: The codes must be redeemed via Origin, which requires a PC/MAC operating system.

Q: Can I use an iPad to play my game?
A: No. The software requires either a Mac or PC platform.

Q: What do I do if I can’t get SimCity to work with my computer?
A: Email your Regional Coordinator with the problem, the steps you’ve taken to resolve it, as well as screenshots of any error messages you’re receiving.

SCHOOL-LEVEL ISSUES:
Q: How do we coordinate downloading our codes with school district IT?
A: Please contact your local school or district IT professional directly for download support. They will likely need to take down firewalls to allow for download/installation.

Q: How do we workaround firewalls?
A: Please refer to http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-firewall-workaround for firewall workaround instructions. Educators will likely need the assistance of their school or district IT support person to get around firewall issues.

Q: How do I download the software on the district laptops?                                                                                                              A: Each school district has its own firewall settings. Educators should work in partnership with the IT support at their school and/or district. The download/installation instructions are located at http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-download-instructions. Firewall workaround tips are located at http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-firewall-workaround.

Q: How can I download with limited codes and get around school district IT?
A: Please refer to http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-download-instructions for instructions on downloading codes on up to 5 computers (page 9 for PC and page 6 for Mac). You should also contact your local/district IT professional for download support. They will likely need to take down firewalls to allow for download/installation.

CODES:
Q: How will I receive my SimCity codes?
A: When you register and complete the program survey, your codes will automatically be deposited to your account. You can find instructions for retrieving your codes here.

Q: How do we download the same code on up to 5 computers?
A: Please refer to http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-download-instructions for instructions on downloading codes on up to 5 computers (page 9 for PC and page 6 for Mac).

Q: How do I get additional SimCity codes?
A: Please email info@futurecity.org with the following information: 1) Future City region 2) # of students (not teams) participating in Future City 3) # of additional codes you’d like.

Q: How can I find out what codes were issued to me last year?
A: Codes redeemed last year will ONLY work if you log into Origin using the same username/password you created then. The code is attached to the Origin account, rather than a computer. Last year’s codes may not be re-redeemed, but if you log into Origin using last year’s account information, SimCity will still appear in “My Games.”

Q: Can I purchase additional copies of SimCity?
A: If you need more copies than Future City can provide, you are welcome to acquire the additional copies however you wish, via Amazon or directly from Origins.https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/simcity-2013-/mac-pc-download/base-game/standard-edition

ORIGIN ERROR MESSAGES:
Q: When I login to Origin, I receive this error message: “online login currently unavailable” What can I do to resolve this issue?
A: If multiple users are trying to login on different computers at the same time, using the same login, this message may occur. You must play in the offline mode when multiple users are using the same code. PLAYING THE GAME:
Q: Can students turn off disasters in the SimCity game?
A: Yes, and they are encouraged to do so. Check out the SC Tips (http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-tips-play-instructions) – page 1 instructs you how to turn off disasters: Select the “Settings” menu and click on the “Gameplay” tab. On this menu, you will want to turn off Random Disasters.

Q: Can students use expansion packs?
A: Yes they may.

Q: How do we save and access our SimCity games?
A: You need to use the offline player mode to save your game locally on your computer. Here is a link with instructions to play offline. http://futurecity.org/resource/simcity-download-instructions

Q: Can the city created on Machine A be used the next day on Machine B?
A: Only when playing in online mode and logging in using the same Origin account each time. However, we suggest playing in Offline mode, which saves the game to your local computer. Saving it this way requires a team to use the same computer to complete the deliverable.
