Future City Competition serves 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Sponsored by DiscoverE, this national program introduces students to engineering with popular Sim City software. Students design cities with simulation software, build scale models, write essays and give oral presentations on their city's design. CHICAGO–The State of Illinois Future City Competition 2018 announced its Top Five team winners from its Jan. 20th regional competition held at UIC-Student Center East. This is their 26th regional competition which is affiliated with DiscoverE (STEM) and National Engineers Week which will be held February 18-24, 2018.

CHICAGO–The Future City Competition - State of Illinois announced its first place team - St. Paul of the Cross School for its project titled Happyville. This is the fourth time that St. Paul of the Cross School has been selected as the first place team in the past few years. St. Paul of the Cross team prepares now to compete in the in the National Competition in February 2018 in Washington, D.C. during National Engineers Week.

CHICAGO–The Future City Competition for the State of Illinois is ready for its Sat., Jan. 20, 2018 event to be held at the UIC-Student Center East located at 750 South Halsted, Chicago, Ill. 60607. We have over 200 students and educators participating in this year’s competition. Over 125 judges will be evaluating the student teams. The Chicago Area Regional Competition is almost here and we are looking for volunteers to help judge and sponsor the event. The competition is occurring in thirty-seven city’s across the nation and provides the students with an exciting hands-on way to learn engineering, math and science with a personal, real world connection. Chicago has been the only city to compete every year since the program began in 1992.

This year’s Future City Competition asks middle school students to address The Power of Public Space and challenges them to design innovative, multiuse public spaces that serve a city’s diverse population. The 2016-17 Future City Competition is right around the corner and we are currently looking for engineers/scientists to volunteer to be a mentor. Engineer mentors will work with the students in an advisory role. They will visit their school 6-10 times throughout the competition, answer questions and guide the students.
