2022 Competition Update

Finals Competition: The 2022 Future City Finals Competition will be held virtually. We understand and share in the disappointment that we cannot gather together in person in Washington, DC. We did not come to this decision lightly; we considered ongoing CDC guidance and held discussions with the venue, our legal team, and leaders of similar youth programs. We concluded that DiscoverE cannot safely bring together a large number of participants from around the country and the world while also ensuring everyone’s health and safety at this point in the pandemic.

Regional winning teams will compete virtually in early February and the Awards Celebration will be livestreamed on March 23, 2022.

Regional Competitions: Regional-level decisions will be made by local coordinators based on CDC guidance and school district rules in their areas. Many regions will host virtual competitions and some may offer optional in-person components. Check with your regional coordinator for more details about the plans in your specific region. You can find your coordinator’s contact information here.

While we will miss gathering in person, we are looking forward to seeing teams’ solutions to this year’s Waste-Free Future challenge. Best of luck to all teams!
