Congratulations to Crestview Middle School!!!

 Crestview Middle School in Ashland County has won the Ohio region of DiscoverE’s Future City Competition by designing the best waste-free city. The students next will represent Ohio in the national competition later this month.

Teams of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders researched technologies, designed cities, presented plans and models, and wrote 1,500-word essays on the topic, “A Waste-Free Future,” which asked the teams to design futuristic, waste-free cities.

Dublin Team Wins Ohio 2021 Future City Competition!!

Teams from Ashland, Franklin, Hamilton, Medina Counties competed in this year's event.  Remote Learning Academy in Dublin has won the Ohio region of DiscoverE’s Future City Competition. This year’s annual competition was held virtually. At night, surrounded by stars or clouds, the Moon looks distant and lifeless. However, it holds a place of unique beauty and dominance in the sky and has been inspiring humanity for eons. Dreamers of all kinds—artists, science fiction writers, scientists, engineers—have imagined a thriving city on the Moon, one with healthy people and a resourceful, sustainable ecosystem. Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2018 Future City Competition Ohio Region event on Saturday, January 20th at Eastland Career Center. While we had a few growing pains in our new facility, combined with last minute changes thanks to the weather, we're happy to have seen to many of you attend and compete. The hard work of our teams was on display throughout the day and everyone should be proud of their work. Below is a list of awards and respective winners.

With competition day postponed to Saturday January 20, the FCC Ohio team is hard at work making the necessary adjustments to ensure a smooth competition day. A more detailed email will out to registered teams by Wednesday evening.

The Future City Competition Ohio Region event has been POSTPONED until Saturday January 20th due to the pending weather event.

We know this is unwelcome news to many of you - it is to us as well. Our team is working hard to shift our resources into putting on the best event we can next Saturday.

Teams from 16 Ohio middle schools competed with custom built models of their future cities complete with moving parts, lights, mirrors, four-sided custom models and many more features in Ohio’s regional DiscoverE Future City Competition, held Jan. 14, 2017, at Columbus State Community College.

Future City is a competition for the young engineers of this world. It’s an organization that has inspired kids to change the world. This program definitely changes who you, as a student, will be. Whether it’s a change for the better or the change for the worst is up to you to decide. You can treat this as just another project that your science teacher has assigned OR you can treat this as an opportunity to experience what it’s like to use teamwork and creative to solve challenging problems and help improve the Earth.

The single most important ingredient in any city is people. And people need a variety of public spaces throughout their city, both indoors and outdoors, where they can meet, relax, play, learn, connect, share cultures, create community, and build civic identity. When city planners and engineers develop public spaces they don’t just consider open fields or existing parks and plazas, they look at sites such as abandoned buildings, old railway lines, waterways (rivers, lakes, ponds), former industrial areas, and the single largest land asset in any city—the streets and sidewalks.
