Future City is celebrating our 28th year! With each year the NorCal Competition continues to grow and provides us with the opportunity to reach out to organizations serving underserved students in order to provide enthusiasm for engineering, project management and the sciences. We strive to ensure these students realize there are unlimited career opportunities in their future. We are anticipating 50 teams will participate in the NorCal completion this year. This amazing turnout requires a big work effort and we need your help to ensure our event is a success! 

Sign up online and select Northern CA Region. It takes approximately 5 minutes for the sign on process. Someone from our coordination committee will contact you upon sign up to discuss the role and provide full details. Please feel free to contact me if you need more information or have questions. Note: Sign up is required annually. Previous login ID and password can be used again this year


Presentation Judge - 1st Round

  • What’s involved?  This is a competition day onsite effort. We need 50 first round judges that will listen to a 5-7 minute verbal presentation and ask the students questions about their future city. The scoring criteria is provided and judge training will be provided via webinar prior to the competition. 
  • Time Commitment: 5 ½ hours
  • When: 7:00-12:30
  • Model Judge
  • What’s involved?  This is a competition day onsite effort. We need 15 judges that will examine and score the students’ future city model. The scoring criteria is provided and judge training will be provided via webinar prior to the competition.  
  • Time Commitment: 5 ½ hours
  • When: 7:00-12:30


Special Award Judge (We need 10 judges)

  • What’s involved?  This is both an online pre-event and competition day onsite effort. Students’ will post a 5 minute  video explaining why their Future City should be selected for a particular award. Judges will view the videos for a specific Special Award and select the top 3 teams. On competition day, the judges will interview their top 3 choices and determine the Special Award winner. We will provide judge training.
  • Time Commitment: approx. 8 hours
  • When:  Online after December 21st. Onsite 7:00-12:30.


NorCal Future City Program is a volunteer run program. We have many volunteer opportunities with time commitment as little as 3 hours. We need assistance with a variety of things including: marketing, sponsor engagement, name tag and certificate printing. We can always use logo items for the student goody bags. The kids love mugs, flash drives, pens, pads, Frisbees and other crazy things to play with.

We also need event-day volunteers.  Family members are welcome to come to our event to help. High school and college students are encouraged!  (Tasks and Times are listed below)

Judge Room Monitors – 10

Snack and Lunch Assistants – 3

General Volunteers – 10

Free Stuff:  All judges and volunteers will receive free food, beverages, and T-Shirts!
