Competition Deadlines and Competition Date Set for January 22, 2022-Virtual or in-Person

We are excited about the 2022 Future City Competition competition!  Welcome, all student teams and educators who are returning for another exciting year. A special welcome to the new student teams and educators who are joining for the first time. 

The competition date is January 22, 2022 - virtual or in-person options are available this year.

This year's challenge is A Waste-Free Future. Please the three- principles of a circular economy to design a futuristic, waste-free city. 

The deadlines for the coming competition are:

    • November 24, 2021     Project Plan Part 1 Set Goals 
    • November 24, 2021     Project Plan Part 2 Create a Schedule 
    • December 6, 2021       City Essay 
    • December 15, 2021     Project Plan Part 3 Conduct Check-ins 
    • December 15, 2021     City Model
    • January 7, 2022           City Presentation 
    • January 11, 2022         Project Plan Part 4 Reflect on Project 
    • January 22, 2022         Competition Date (Question & Answer) 

Here are other helpful highlights as your prepare for the upcoming competition. 

  • The Sim City component is no longer a part of the competition.
  • The FC handbook and website can walk you through the engineering design and project management stages. As they create their city, students will use their Project Plan to record their goals, make schedules, check-in on project progress, and reflect on their final product. This information will help student teams throughout the competition.
  • A Project Plan will need to be developed and submitted to be judged again this year and will be worth 10 points. 
  • There are many tips available in the handbook as you prepare for the competition.

Engineer Mentor

If you do not have an engineer mentor for your student team, we will assist you in locating an engineering mentor. We suggest contacting parents and relatives for engineers and your city's engineering department. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or need further assistance.
