St. Paul of the Cross School Wins First Place-2018 State of Illinois Future City Competition

CHICAGO–The Future City Competition - State of Illinois announced its first place team - St. Paul of the Cross School for its project titled Happyville. This is the fourth time that St. Paul of the Cross School has been selected as the first place team in the past few years. St. Paul of the Cross team prepares now to compete in the in the National Competition in February 2018 in Washington, D.C. during National Engineers Week.

Over 200 students and educators participated in this year’s competition which was held at the UIC-Student Center East on Sat. Jan. 20th.  Over 125 judges participated during the competition. Twenty-six Special Awards were awarded and five top teams were selected in this year’s competition. Look for more details soon.  

This year’s theme was The Age-Friendly City. Future City asked middle school students to respond to and address the challenges in designing innovative solutions that can serve an urban area’s older population. Students were tasked with identifying age-related issues in their city planning and engineering a framework that enables seniors to remain active and independent.  

In the US, over 40,000 students, representing 1,350 schools, take part in the Future City® Competition.

Major funding in the National Finals comes from Bechtel Corporation, Bentley Systems, EA, ExxonMobil, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, NCEE, Northrop Grumman Foundation, Raytheon, Shell Oil Company, TE, and UL.
