Welcome to the Alabama Regional Competition!
We would like to thank each and every one of you for visiting our site. This is the 18th year that Alabama has competed in the Future City Program and we are eager to get started on another great year! Alabama's mission is to provide quality extracurricular activities to middle school students who are interested in math, science and engineering fields. We are dedicated to fostering interest for future careers in engineering.
The Alabama Regional Future City Competition is a state-wide, project-based learning experience where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade imagine, design, and build cities of the future. Students work as a team with an educator and engineer mentor to plan cities using SimCity™ software; research and write solutions to an engineering problem; build tabletop scale models with recycled materials; and present their ideas before judges annually at the Regional Competition.
The Alabama Regional Competition will be held on Saturday, January 19th, 2019 from 7:30am – 5:00pm at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in the Davidson Center – Saturn V Hall. Each year a new theme is developed to test the competitors' problem-solving skills. The teams are encouraged to design futuristic cities that revolve around that theme and hopefully their citizens thrive within these cities.
